Industry certification is a joint venture between business and industry and career and technical educators. This partnership aids in the development of an adequate and well-prepared work force. Certification recognizes career, technical and agricultural education programs that meet or exceed industry standards of quality. The certification process in general involves application to the appropriate business or technical organization and an evaluation of a program’s goals and objectives, administration, learning resources, financial support, student services, instructional equipment/facilities, specialized support, and instructional staff. Industry representatives help compare a school’s program to industry standards through evaluation. Other benefits of certification include prestige and creditability of the program in the community, a source of advisory committee members, job placement opportunities, and recognition of students.
